To receive an IBCLC credential as a registered health professional there are some criteria you need to complete prior to sitting the exam. You need to complete a minimum of 95 hours of lactation specific education and a minimum of 1000 hours of lactation specific clinical practice. This needs to occur in the last five years before you apply to sit the IBCLC exam. The exam is taken worldwide twice per year and when passed gives you an IBCLC certification!
